Taco Seasoning

So last night I was totally out of ideas for dinner, but I did have everything I needed for tacos...except taco seasoning! I've always been a fan of the traditional taco seasoning packet, but I was desperate, so I did some web surfing. This is what what I ended up making based on some recipes I found and my own thoughts/spice supply:

1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 tablespoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion flakes
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons cumin seeds
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

I used one teaspoon of the mixture on a little under a pound of meat. I added the seasoning and the water after I cooked the meat. It was pretty good. I tasted just the meat, and it may not be quite as good as the store bought stuff, but A) it was free because I already had the ingredients, and B) once I had all my toppings on the taco I could tell zero difference.
Cocina Feliz :)
